L’archivio storico del Comune di San Gavino Monreale si trova nei locali comunali realizzati a seguito della ristrutturazione di casa Fais. Al suo interno sono conservati i documenti prodotti e ricevuti dal Comune dalle sue origini fino al recente 1967.

La chiesa di Santa Chiara Vergine fu edificata intorno al XV secolo, nel periodo in cui il nucleo di San Gavino Monreale, che si trovava vicino alla chiesa di San Gavino Martire, si spostò verso ovest, in una posizione centrale e più facilmente difendibile.

The church of Santa Chiara Vergine was built around the 15th century, during the period in which the centre of San Gavino Monreale – near the Church of San Gavino Martire – was moving towards West, in a central position, where the village could be protected more effectively.

Casa Dona Maxima è una tipica casa padronale sangavinese risalente al XVI secolo. All’epoca San Gavino era il centro amministrativo-giudiziario del Monreale. La Casa fu costruita per volontà dei feudatari spagnoli di Quirra che estesero i loro possedimenti sino all’arburese.

Casa Dona Maxima is a typical San Gavino’s manor house which dates back to the 16th century. At that time, San Gavino was the administrative and judicial reference point of the Monreale area. The manor was built by the Spanish feudal lords of Quirra who extended their lands up to the Arbus area.

La Chiesa di San Gavino Martire costruita nel 1347, è definita il pantheon degli Arborea ed è giunta a noi pesantemente modificata rispetto alle originarie strutture gotiche. L’antica chiesa, consacrata nel 1387, è l’unico edificio religioso che presenta le effigi ritraenti i regnanti del giudicato d’Arborea tra cui quello di Mariano IV e di sua figlia Eleonora: una scoperta dello storico Francesco Cesare Casula nel 1983.

The Church of San Gavino Martire, built in 1347, is considered as the Arborea’s pantheon; its original Gothic structures have been profoundly changed. The ancient church, consecrated in 1387, is the only worship building with effigies of the rulers of the District of Arborea, such as Mariano IV and his daughter Eleonora: a discovery made by Francesco Cesare Casula in 1983.

Casa Mereu è un edificio a due piani situato nel centro storico, nell’isolato chiamato Su Presoni Becciu. Prima di essere acquistata dal Comune di San Gavino Monreale agli inizi del 2009, l’abitazione apparteneva alla famiglia Mereu, commercianti ambulanti originari di Cagliari.

Casa Mereu is a two-storey building in the old town centre, in the neighbourhood called Su Presoni Becciu (the Old Prison). Before being acquired by the Town Hall in the early 2009, the building was property of the Mereu family; they were travelling merchants from Cagliari.

La chiesa di Santa Croce fu innalzata nella prima metà del XVI secolo per porre rimedio alla crescita della popolazione che si espandeva verso occidente. L’edificio possiede delle mura molto antiche ed è custodito dalla Confraternita di Santa Croce, la più antica e unica presente attualmente a San Gavino Monreale.
